If you've never built a speaker cabinet before the Omni 12 Fullrange can be your first.
I designed this project specifically for woodworking newbie's who don't have
a lot of experience and also don't have a lot of tools. But
just because this cabinet can be built by just about anyone that doesn't mean
there's any scrimping on the performance. Utilizing a Eminence Deltalite II 2012
woofer, Alphalite 6aCBMR and APT 80 drivers, the Omni 12 Fullrange is fully horn-loaded,
and that means loud. But at about 60 pounds and measuring only 24 inches wide,
28 inches high and 15 inches deep, it's no larger than many cabs that can't
come close to its output capability.
Take a look at this SPL chart, comparing the O12F (top trace) to a respected
commercial PA cab, the fifteen-inch woofer loaded EV Eliminator:
On average 3dB higher in sensitivity than commercial cabs, the Omni uses half
the watts to reach the same volume level. As a cab for electric bass the
Omni has deeper lows than the average 1x15, stronger mids than the average
2x10, and unsurpassed highs. Keyboard players can finally hear their
instruments with as much fidelity on stage as they’re used to hearing in the
studio. What the Omni doesn't have is a big price tag. You can build one for
less than three hundred bucks.
This is what builder Charlie Biern said about his O12Fs:
I've used my pole mounted Omni 12s several times so far (both with and
without T24s) as the mains for my brother-in-law's 4 piece cover band and
have received raves for clarity vs. his JBL Eon G2s. Easily able to be louder
than you'd want to listen to with just a QSC RMX850 (185 watts) pushing them.
Since the Omni 12 Fullrange is intended for beginners the plans go into great depth, 23 pages in all, with
dozens of photos and diagrams.
And, for those who prefer a cab with a higher and narrower profile, the Omni 12
The narrower footprint of the 20 inch wide, 34 inch high O12 TallBoy is stage
friendly in smaller clubs, and gives better projection over the audience in PA
applications, while delivering the same response as the original.
For higher bass output both O12 versions may be built with two Eminence BP102 tens.
And if you need a subwoofer that's better than comparably sized commercial
offerings, but don't need the sensitivity of a Tuba or Titan, build your O12
without the mid and HF horns. Included is a passive crossover option for using
an O12 sub with your electric bass cab or PA tops without bi-amping.
Construction Degree of Difficulty: 4

The Omni 12s are stand-alone cabs, for use without separate subwoofers.
